Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is seeking a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor to support medical and graduate education. The educational focus of the department includes a significant contribution to teaching and administration in the BSOM M.D. program, as well as teaching and administering graduate-level courses in the M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Biomedical Sciences at BSOM, and in the D.M.D. program in the School of Dental Medicine.
The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU) is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor level. This is a three-year non-tenure track, fixed-term appointment with the possibility of a subsequent three-to-five-year renewable contract. The duties of the new faculty member recruited to this position will include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop and deliver materials related both to lecture and cadaveric laboratory sessions in Medical Gross Anatomy and medical histology (50%).
  • Contribute to and enhance the departmental educational mission with responsibility for teaching students enrolled in other health professional programs primarily in human gross anatomy (40%).
  • Contribute to departmental, school, and institutional professional service (i.e., serving on departmental, school, or institutional committees and/or task forces). (10%)

Job Duties
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver live and recorded lectures to support teaching in the M.D., M.S., and Ph.D. programs.
  • Assist in the administration of cadaveric laboratory sessions, flipped classrooms and review sessions in the M.D. program.
  • Provide individualized support to medical and graduate students through office hours.
  • Contribute to writing USMLE-style clinical vignette problems to maintain practice and assessment question banks in the M.D. program.
  • Provide content tutoring and study process support to students in partnership with the Office of Student Success and Wellness.
  • Assist in the administration and secure review of assessments in the M.D. program.
  • Contribute to teaching and administration of other pathway programs including the Summer Program for Future Doctors (SPFD), which provides a condensed preview of the M.D. curriculum to assist in the preparation of students for medical school.
  • Contribute to basic science teaching in the D.M.D. program at the ECU School of Dental Medicine.
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development in the various degree programs.
  • Develop and contribute to opportunities for scholarship in learning and education.

Minimum Education/Experience
Candidates will have a doctorate (Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M.) in a relevant foundational science field and experience with teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. The level of appointment will be determined by the candidate's experience level. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
