Job Summary

UFP Transportation is seeking an Assistant Operations Manager with a strong focus on best practices to drive operational excellence and profitability. This is a management in training position working closely with operations and sales to optimize network efficiencies, reduce logistics costs, and improve customer experience.

The person is this role will report to the Transportation Operations Manager and will assist them and other team members to execute the overall strategic goals and growth plans.

Location: Position can office out of Windsor, CO or Grand Rapids, MI

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing and coordinating transportation operations, including scheduling, routing, and fleet management.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, training, performance assessments, and recognition.
  • Implementing and executing transportation strategies and plans to optimize the movement of products, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Collaborating with operations, purchasing, sales and vendors to develop and implement solutions to optimize, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with carriers, negotiating contracts, rates, and service level agreements.
  • Managing and overseeing resolution of operational issues with carriers and plants to include developing innovative approaches to continuously improve.
  • Coordinating between transportation and plant shipping teams to educate and provides support on Transportation Systems
  • Monitor internal processes to ensure transportation is flowing smoothly and effectively for all businesses in line with business metrics.
  • Monitoring key metrics within the Transportation Management Systems and PowerBI.
  • Ability to cover any Hub Manager or Load Planner duties and provide backup / flow to work coverage as needed.
  • Support and drive to conclusion special projects as defined by leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years transportation experience, fleet management preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, compliance, and documentation requirements.
  • A critical thinker and decision maker who understands the effect of decisions on costs, productivity, and reliability.
  • High energy, self-motivated, organized, and able to self-manage time and daily objectives, who can think and assess situations and make critical or strategic decisions.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with geographically operated fleets a plus.
  • Proficiency in using transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant software applications.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and work outside regular business hours when required.
  • Preferred experience and knowledge of UFP's organization, culture, and product lines.
  • 50% travel required

Compensation & Benefit Information:

Salary Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annually dependent on experience*

*pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living

Bonus/Incentive Pay

Annual performance bonus opportunity based on Company and specific business unit ROI and PBOP achievement criteria and individual job responsibility and performance.
