This role has accountability to support indirect taxes including sales, use, gross receipts, motor fuels and excise taxes for Enbridge's U.S. entities. This role will support the Enbridge U.S. tax system by aligning with state, local and federal law, maintaining tax processes that improve efficiency and performing necessary tax planning to identify and execute upon tax savings opportunities. What you will do:
  • Complete the timely compliance of sales, use, gross receipts, motor fuels and excise taxes returns

  • Complete journal entries and tax account reconciliations

  • Register businesses with appropriate Taxing Authorities to obtain necessary licensing and registrations

  • Collect, maintain, and issue appropriate exemption certificates and documentation

  • Research state, local and federal tax issues relating to current and potential future activity

  • Prepare and present tax training presentations to internal partners

  • Manage tax audits and refund claims including gathering data, documentation, reviewing information provided by the auditor, and responding to information requests from both auditors and third party consultants.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Tax Software Implementation Projects

  • Assist with maintenance of ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Determination Software

  • This position includes shared responsibilities relating to the tax compliance and audit function for over 200 Enbridge U.S. entities in more than 40 states

  • This role must demonstrate broad accounting, business and tax technical knowledge in resolving problems, project management, and identifying opportunities to minimize tax or recover overpaid taxes.

  • This role must have a keen awareness of the importance of interrelationships with both internal and external partners.

  • Independently takes responsibility for varied assignments requiring a broad understanding of state and federal taxing laws

You have:

  • An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or a related subject area

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in Indirect Tax, preferably in the retail utility or energy industry.

You can:

  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of standard Transaction Tax concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage a demanding workload

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

You are:

  • Someone who has experience with large ERP systems (Oracle Cloud preferred)

  • Someone who has proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access skills

Preferred:

  • ONESOURCE Tax Determination Software Experience

  • Retail Utility Tax Experience

  • Alteryx and Power BI Experience

  • CPA/CMI designation

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
