Electrical engineers at Sierra Space research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and design new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle from analog and digital electronic circuit card assemblies to fully integrated systems.

Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations.

Sierra Space's Orbital Mission and Services (OMS) division focuses on the design, build, and operations of small satellites in support of commercial services and national security space applications and offers two work locations: Louisville, Colorado and Centennial, Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Command & Data Handling (CDH) subsystem

  • Support the definition and maintenance of the subsystem architecture and interfaces.

  • Analyzes and designs avionics systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles

  • Evaluates and coordinates electrical system designs to ensure system- level requirements are met

  • Implement fault-tolerant strategies within the CDH systems

  • Develop CDH subsystem requirements

  • Analyzes and interprets requirements at the space vehicle level and flows down requirements to lower level specifications

  • Generate verification and validation plans, and work with Integration and Test team to ensure the subsystem meets requirements.

  • Provides technical coordination of vendors and suppliers

  • Technical writing (procedural definitions, specifications, interfaces, analysis support and description documents).

  • Prepare and give presentations to peers, customer and management.

  • Develops cost estimates for proposals and programs as required

  • Develops and manages schedule and resources as required by the program

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools

  • Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • Active Top Secret US Government security clearance with SCI eligibility

Strongly Preferred:

  • Electrical engineering background

  • Experience in designing and implementing Command and Data Handling systems for space missions

  • Strong understanding of onboard computing, communication protocols, and fault-tolerant system design

  • An understanding of requirements definition, decomposition, and flow-down, interface definition, interface control, analyses, and verification

  • Experience developing and delivering space qualified hardware

Preferred:

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation

  • Experience with creating and tracking schedules using project tracking tools such as Microsoft project

  • Experience withEVMSand creating variance reports

  • Experience with requirements tracking tool such asDOORS

  • Digital design experience

  • Experience developing FPGAs

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance with SCI eligibility. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:

$120,552.10 - $180,828.15

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
