What to Expect

We are seeking an Accounting Manager for Tesla Insurance with industry expertise to assist with all aspects of accounting and reporting for the Tesla Insurance Services Auto business. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for U.S. GAAP accounting and reporting for P&C insurance operations as well as statutory accounting and reporting, as needed. The Manager will work alongside our corporate accounting and insurance finance and operations teams and become a trusted partner, assisting in the implementation of new processes and procedures. This role is critical to the success of our insurance industry growth.


The Accounting Manager will manage the accurate completion of the team's assignments while developing the capabilities of teammates and will lead innovative efforts to continuously improve processes to ensure work is performed in the fastest, most efficient means possible. We are flexible on location for this position.

What You'll Do
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close cycles for insurance holding company and insurance carrier entities through effective planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Establish, document and perform internal control procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversees and assists in performance the most complex accounting activities.
  • Review other team members` schedules to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting regulations.
  • Train others on financial systems and manages key interfaces and interdependencies.
  • Make recommendations for enhancements to financial systems and associated processes and participate in or lead their implementation.
  • Initiate and/or lead increasingly complex department projects and continuous improvement activities that may span beyond the scope of own team`s responsibilities.
  • Cultivate an environment focused on development by assigning projects to build teammates` strengths and sharing knowledge through training or reviewing their work.
  • Coordinate with Risk Management, Actuarial, Treasury, Finance, and other stakeholders on matters related to the insurance captive entities
  • Review (re)insurance and trust contracts to identify key financial impacts and rights/obligations
  • Partner with the Finance team to analyze historical results and improve information quality.
  • Support external audit requirements related to specific areas of responsibility
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree (Accounting or Finance) required.
  • At least five years of Statutory, GAAP and reinsurance experience in the P&C insurance industry is required
  • Familiarity with NAIC quarterly and annual statement content and preparation
  • CPA degree required
  • Advanced Excel expertise preferred
  • Experience with large-scale accounting systems
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment and the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions to achieve results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong business and collaboration skills and responsive to service needs and operational demands
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
