When preparing for an interview, it is important to prepare questions that you can ask the interviewer. Not only do you have to make sure the company is the right fit for you, but also by asking questions it shows that you are interested in the company and the position. There are many questions that you could ask during an interview that pertain to specific positions, but provided below is a list of popular questions to ask.
  • What will be the biggest challenge for this position in the first 6 months? (Learn what the most difficult task for you will be. This will be something that the employer will be looking for you to overcome.)
  • Please describe a typical day or workweek in this position? (Get to know the day-to-day responsibilities of the position.)
  • What are the most important aspects of this position? (Get to know what the employer’s priorities are.)
  • How would I be evaluated? (This is a good follow up to the previous question to learn more about the employer’s expectations and how often you will be evaluated.)
  • What is the company culture like? What makes this company a great place to work? (Learn if the company will be a good fit for you.)
  • Where do you think the company is headed in the next 5 years? (Learn about the health of the company and if the company is growing and plans to expand.)
  • What is the career path like in this position? Is there growth potential? (This question shows that you are ambitious.)
  • What is the next step in the interview process? (At the end of the interview, it is very important to know what to expect in the coming weeks. When would you hear back from them? Will there be another round of interviews?)
Do not ask questions about benefits, vacation time or salary until you are offered the job or in the last round of interviews. Also, do not ask what the company does. This will show that you did not prepare sufficiently for the interview and did not research the company at all.
