3 Ways to Get to Happiness in Your Career and Health
Share
Just a few days ago, I had a friend propose that we start working out together. I thought that was the best idea I heard all summer. Sweet! Any excuse to get in shape and do healthy activities sounded great.

Before we ended the conversation, she also enlisted my help in finding her a new job. Hold up! It’s one thing to work out, but now she wanted to look for a new job? I thought to myself, I have no time for this and that. Her response was, “both are just as important.”

She went through a whole list as to why having a successful career was just as important as being healthy. She had some good points. So, as I pulled out my calendar to schedule some work out dates, I also blocked off some dates to work on my career.

Here are ways to kick-off a healthy lifestyle at work and wellness this summer.

Go Outside

During the summer, the weather is warm and the sky is clear. First thing you might think to do is spend some time at the pool or at a barbeque with family and friends. Consider spending more time out of the office to work on a creative idea. Eat lunch outside and have work meetings outdoors. Consider a team building project that requires no jacket and flip flops.

Lastly, do some outdoor activities that will get you moving. A nice walk in the park or a jog will get your heart rate going.

Get Professional Advice

You might not know everything and that is fine because there are experts who can help you. The best way to get professional guidance on your career is by getting a mentor who is at the career level you want to achieve.

This is also true when it comes to wellness. Have you ever walked into a gym and felt clueless? That’s what trainers are for. Having a physical trainer will guide you on the best workout routines and diets for your weight loss goal.

Get a Buddy

This tip goes back to the point I made earlier about getting help. You may think that looking for a new job or career should be done alone, but you’re wrong. You might get further in your search if you express to your network what you’re looking for. Reach out to social media friends and, if available, former colleagues.

Also reach out to your network to ask if they belong to any workout groups or in a fitness challenge. You’ll most likely stick to your goal when held accountable.

The fact is the more–not the less–we know, the better we’re prepared for a life of happiness. Being happy has many definitions, but if you start with having a satisfying career and being healthy, then that happiness is worth living for.
